Shinyori AU

“Stupid.” He replied, waiting for her to catch up so that he could drop her off. He would never admit it, but he enjoyed spending time with the short girl when they were both just silent.

Hiyori growled and smacked him upside the head. "Shut up, jackass!" She narrowed her eyes and adjusted the bag on her shoulder before continuing to walk silently. Secretly, she appreciated Shinji's refusal to leave her, but she didn't want to seem needy, which she was anything but. It was still nice though, to know someone cares.

Without realizing her actions, she casually intertwined her fingers with Shinji's. Out of sheer horror of what she had done she almost pulled away...... almost. Much to her dismay, she liked the feel of his hand against hers, so she casually pretended she wasn't doing anything different.

Shinji rubbed his head, already ecpecing the abuse from her part. It was good that nothing much had changed between them. He liked things just the way they were... Well, the abuse could go down a bit, but hey, it kinda had it's own charm. If he squinted. An turned his head.

Shinjis eyes suddenly widened as he felt a small hand fall into his. He stopped himself from openly acknowledging the fact that she just grabed his hand and intertwined their fingers. He liked how her small hand fit into his, it was quite nice.

Hiyori silently thanked Shinji for his lack of a reaction. She liked the fact that Shinji has never really been one to overreact over much.

The wind blew through the busy city street, sending shivers down Hiyori's spine, she rubbed her arms and realized that she had forgotten her jacket at school. "Typical." She muttered to her self.

Shinji saw the small shiver that wracked the blonde girls body. Rolling his eyes, he shrugged off his jacket and dropped it on her head.

"OI! Watch where yer droppin that shit!" She glared at him before shrugging on the jacket. If she could even call it that, on Hiyori it very nearly hit her knees.

She wrapped her arm around her waist, taking in the feel of the jacket. The jacket was warm and smelled like him, Hiyori smiled at her self, praying Shinji couldn't see.

The tall blond simply rolled his eyes and chuckled as he saw her put on his jacket that seemed to swim on her. A small smile tugged at his lips as he saw her own smile after smelling his jacket. It was an odd gesture coming from the girl, but he was definitely not complaining. He put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer, continuing walking to her house.

"C'mon."

Hiyori glared at the ground as they walked, she wasn't mad per say, just irritated at herself.

"Well, well, well, look at who's here." A voice came from a nearby alley. Hiyori's gaze snapped up to see the man that she kicked earlier, stumble out of the alleyway. Whether it was from the amount of alcohol he had consumed, which Hiyori could tell was a lot, he stunk of booze. Or the fact that he was still hurting from being kicked, she couldn't really blame him, she did kick him pretty hard.

"What the fuck do you want?" Hiyori snapped, the last thing she needed was a drunken idiot with a grudge to interrupt her, so far, a pretty damn good day.

Shinji straitened from his slouched position and subtly stood in front of the short blonde. He gave the drunk fool a look over and sighed.

"What?" He asked, his expression bored, but his stance was a bit tense. He was ready for practically anything the drunken bastard could dish out.

Hiyori rolled her eyes, for as long as she could remember Shinji was overprotective about her everywhere they went. If someone LOOKED at her wrong, despite the fact that she could take care of herself perfectly fine, he would get very defensive.

"Awww, got yerself a body-guard, huh? How chuute." He slurred taking a few steps at Hiyori.

"Shove off! Before I kick you again!" She snapped, shoving Shinji slightly so he could at least SEE her make the threat.

"Get any closer to her, and see what happens." Shinji threatened, his expression still bored, but his eyues promised all sorts of evil.

Hiyori could hear the underlining venom in Shinji's voice. She didn't like it one bit. Shinji was always the calm and collected one.

"Just back up, alright? I just wanna get home without anyone getting killed." If she had been alone, she would have wiped the floor with this idiot, but she didn't want Shinji to get hurt, so for once in her life she backed down from a fight.

"Not so tough now are ya, midget?" He sneered.

"I would kick your ass before you even knew what was going on. Just get the fuck out of here before you get hurt" She squeezed Shinji's hand.

"Let's go." She said to him.

He stumbled forward again, getting dangerously close to the two. Hiyori instinctively tried to break away from Shinji to go at the guy.

His previously bored expression quickly changed as Shinji grabbed the drunks neck and roughly pushed him against a wall. His grip tightened as he glared at the drunk, disgust marring his features.

"I'll count to three. Get the hell out of my sight." He threatened, his grip tightening once more before letting go and watching the scared drunk.

Hiyori watched in a mix of amusement and shock as the drunk man didn't say anything, he merely stumbled away.

"Damn." She commented, crossing her arms. "If I hadn't known better I would have actually been scared." She stuck her tongue out at him. She knew that he had been serious, but she had trouble seeing him as a serious guy. Even when irritated he had this... calm undertone to everything he said. It was slightly comforting to the girl.

Shinji shrugged and went back to slouching. He began walking slowly, waiting for the short blonde to catch up to him.

She blinked, before snapping back to reality and jogged a few steps to catch up.

"WAIT FER ME." She said angrily. She caught up to him and smacked him upside the head. "NEVER, Go all hero complex like that again. I can take care of myself, ya big dumbass."

The tall man rubbed the back of his head and looked down at her, his gaze uninterested.

"I never said ya' couldn't, ya crazy monkey."

"Then why didn't ya just let me kick his ass and we could have left a lot sooner? Instead ya had'ta break out the damn heroics. And call me a monkey again and I will kick yer ass all the way back to your house." She shoved him playfully.

Shinji laughed off her accusation and poked the short blonde. He knew that he had overreacted a bit, but he was allowed damn it. He had waited for years, and now that he had her, he sure as hell wasn't going to let her go.

"Whatever."

"DON'T WHATEVER ME, YA STUPID DUMBASS." She shoved him harder this time, holding back a laugh.

Shinji raised an eyebrow, not budging from the "push" she gave him. His eyes taking an evil gleam, he grined at her, "Oh yeah?"

"YEAH! Ya heard me!" She narrowed her eyes at him before gently kicking him in the shin.

Not bothering to acknowledge the pain in his shin, Shinji picked up the small blonde and threw her over his shoulder, holding her legs so that she doesn't manage to kick him once more.

"WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA, DUMBASS. PUT ME DOOOOWN." She wailed, pounding on his back and kicking him. One thing you do NOT do to Hiyori, is pick her up.

Shinji ignored the blonde and completely restrained her feet, keeping her from kicking him. He kept on walking until he stood in front of her house.

Once he set her down, placed a quick kiss on her forehead, and turned, walking away.
