Shinyori AU

Shinji sighed as he sat down on his desk, trying to sleep. He was tired, hungry, and didn't feel like doing math. He flirted a bit with a couple of his classmates but he really wasn't feeling it, which was weird all on its own.

"Guh.." He muttered into his arms, ignoring his teachers droning on about who knows what.

Hiyori watched in silent annoyance as Shinji muttered to himself a few seats in front of her. "Dumbass." She shook her head at her desk,her pigtails swishing past her ears. She kept her eyes trained on her desk as she balled up a piece of paper. The blonde waited for the opportune moment when the teacher turns around and writes something on the board. Not that she was paying any attention what-so-ever. When that moment came, she pulled her arm back and launched the paper ball at his head.

In the back of his mind, warning bells erupted, telling him that something was about to happen, but for the life of him, he couldn't care less. All he got was a light "Dumbass" before something hit him hard against the back of his head.

His head shot up and grabbed whatever it was that hit him, not letting the old teacher get a chance to incriminate him. He looked over at the object in his hand and saw that it was a wad of paper.

His gaze immediately flew back, and landed on the short, blonde sitting a few desks back.

"Oi! Watch it, snaggle tooth."

Hiyori bit her own tongue to keep from yelling and/or yelling insults at the man.

"Snaggletooth? REALLY, baldy?" She glared at him, making a point to keep her voice low, she didn't need ANOTHER lunch detention for talking during class. Their teacher sent her a warning glance before turning around and continuing to write on the board. Now unable to convey her emotions verbally, Hiyori pretended to be writing down her notes, but in reality she was writing a very well thought out and equally as insulting note for Hirako.

"OI! YOU STUPID DICKHEAD, BALDY,
Call me snaggletooth one more time and I'll make sure ya can't have kids.

So I'd watch it."

She wadded up the paper into a triangle and flicked it at the back of his head again, thankfully the person that usually sat in front of Hiyori was absent that day.

He watched in amusement as Hiyori tried and failed to keep quiet. Part of him was amused by the sorry attempt and part of him was aggrivated because if things continued, he would have another detention with her, and that was definitely not a good thing.

At all.

Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as she furiously wrote something on another innocent piece of paper and hurled it in his direction. He caught it in one hand and quickly opened it, reading the terrible hand writing (the only reason he could read it in the first place was because he's had years of practice). He grabed his pencil and replied,

"Oh yeah, snaggle tooth? How're ya' gonna do that, eh?"

He balled the crinkled paper back up and tossed it back.

She rolled her eyes, and made wringing motions at his neck, even though Shinji was facing the front of the class.

She picked up her pen again and quickly scribbled, "BECAUSE I WILL FIND YOU CAN KICK YER ASS INTO AN OBLIVION. Do NOT doubt me." She quickly folded it up and chucked it at his head.

The blonde man laughed as he read her response, knowing that she would try her best to keep her word (which really would be a great, if her goal in life was not to kill him).

He wrote a quick, "Not if ya' can't find me" and hurled the paper back at her.

"Sarugaki! Hirako! Is there something going on over there that I should know about?" Their teacher barked as she almost failed to catch the paper, looking slightly suspicous.

"Nah." Hiyori said, leaning back in her seat.

"Don't use that tone with me." He replied.

"Tch, whatever." She mumbled, writing down her response to Shinji.

"Office. now." He said, pointing at the door.

Without a word, the blonde haired girl crumpled up the paper and casually dropped it in Shinji's lap as she walked by, slinging her messenger bag over her shoulder as she walked by. Shooting a glare at the teacher she walked out of the room into the hall.

"....Are ya seriously challengin me to somethin like that? Ya know I'll find ya, and kick yer ass, ya stupid dickhead!"

"Have fun in the principals office~" He called after the blonde, making the teacher look over at him, as if he was expecting something.

"Yes, sensei?" Shinji asked, slightly irritated by the look the elderly man was sending him. Not that he didn't get that look often, because he did, but still. It was completely uncalled for at the moment!

"Detention. After school." The old man ordered, turning once more toward the board behind him as if nothing had just occurred.

"But sensei!" He exclaimed, pushing down the urge to stand up and yell at the old man. In his opinion, people that old shouldn't even be leaving their homes. He was like.... a thousand or something?

"Do you want lunch detention too?" The man replied, not turning around.

Shinji growled at the old man and said nothing. The man was clearly out to get him so there was no point fighting him about it. The blond simply put his head back down and tried to sleep once more. This was all the snagle tooth's fault.

The rest of the class period went by in a blur for Hiyori, she only vaguely paid attention to her principal's punishment for her, after school detention for the next few days, she had to apologize to her teacher, all that.

It felt like a fog had lifted the moment she stepped outside of the office into the hall. That room just had a heaviness too it. Hiyori hated it. She continued walking down the hall to her next class, up a head she saw a very specific blonde haired man walking to his next class, snickering to herself she wove in and out of the crowd until she was close enough to Shinji to jump up and hit him in the back of the head.

"Sup, dickhead?"

The rest of class went by the same, Shinji sleeping and the old man droning on and on about nothing of importance. The bell that happened to be right above his seat, rang quite loudly if he does say so himself, and woke him up rather rudely. He groaned and grabbed his bag, tossing it behind him, and he walked out of class.

A loud whack to the head fully woke him up and he whirled back, looking at the person stupid enough to hit him while he was still asleep. When he saw no one, he was about to turn around, but then he heard her voice. He really shouldn't have been surprised.

"Hey! What's the big idea, stupid?!" He exclaimed, rubbing the back of his head.

Hiyori shrugged, her trademark scowl plastered on her face as she glared straight ahead.

"I toldja I'd get ya, and I did." She answered simply, she turned to look up at the man, "Didja get in trouble?" She asked, truth be told, she did slightly feel bad about her best friend getting into trouble on her account.

A passing by student, ran into her, knocking her back a few.

"OI, WATCH WHERE YER GOIN, JACKASS." She snapped, all traces of her sensitivity gone. The student just whirled around and glared down at her.

"Shut up, midget." He replied. Hiyori would never admit it, but she did have a SMALL issue with her temper. Just a small one. So the moment those words passed her lips her blood began boiling, remembering her conversation with Shinji,she forced her self to not go an kick his ass, instead she just flipped him off and kicked him in the crotch before walking away.

"You were sayin, Shinji?" She asked, feeling a bit better about her day.

Shinji rolled his eyes at the display Hiyori was making. He knew how much she hated being called a midget, and he was slightly amazed by the fact that she only kicked the bastard in the balls. She clearly had other things on her mind, or else she would have beat the lights out of him. A little part of him was screaming for him to beat the man to a living pulp, but he already had after school detention. He couldn't afford to get into deeper shit.

The blonde man simply shrugged and looked down at his best friend, "After school detention. The usual. Tch, the bastard hates me, ya' know."

She knew that she was going to pay for that later, whatever dude that was, had an ego, and it's not every day you get kicked in the balls by the shortest girl in school in front of everyone. But hey, she'd cross that bridge when she got to it.

She snorted and grinned up at the man. "The principal took mercy on me today and once again decided, NOT to expel me. I have after school detention too."

Shinji threw his head back and laughed loudly. "That woman really loves you Hiyori. She woulda' threw anyone else out on the first strike."

He laughed a little more as they walked to their next class, Psychology, the one class that he actually payed attention to. The concept of hypnosis, what they were currently studying, was very fascinating to him.

"Oh please, just 'cause all the teachers have it out fer YOU doesn't mean shit." She laughed, she followed him into Psychology and prepared to take a nice long nap. Shinji was in love with Psychology, also the fact that the teacher was a a female teacher who was rather.... gifted. Hiyori was sure that was a major part of his likeness for the class. He even did the homework for god's sake.

She took her seat next to Shinji, the only class where she actually got to bug him without anyone noticing, and it was also the most boring one. She frequently just ended up sleeping on his shoulder.

"....naptime." She muttered to herself.

Shinji quickly walked over to his teacher and greeted her politely, in his opinion, and went to sit in his assigned seat next to Hiyori. He completely ignored her and took out his notebook and something to write with.

He knew that Hiyori hated this class, and he expected her head to fall on his arm at some point in class. He would never admit it, but he enjoyed watching her sleep sometimes. Even if it was a bit weird.

"Whatever." He muttered, beginning to write down what the woman was saying.

"Wake me up when it's over?" She asked, yawning. She folded her arms on the scratched up table and laid her head on her arms, facing Shinji as he swiftly took notes, her eyes tried to follow along, but quickly glazed over after about page of notes.

She secretly liked falling asleep on Shinji, it was amusing to wake up and have him look all annoyed at his inability to take notes, so right as she fell asleep she casually turned her head and tilted it back against his upper arm.

Shinji couldn't help but smile a little as he watched her get comfortable in her arms, and slowly inch towards his arm.

"Sure." He replied softly, not wanting to get in trouble or wake her up. He turned once more to his notes and focused on the lesson.

After a few failed attempts of paying attention, the teacher announced the end of class and her poked the girl sleeping on him, hoping she would wake up.

"Get up, class is about to be over." He said softly.

Hiyori's sleep was sadly disrupted by someone poking at her, she absentminded swatted her hand in the direction of the nuisance. But sadly, the damage had been done. She groaned and sat up, looking groggily at Shinji.

"Did I miss anything life changing?" She asked as the rest of the students talked and packed up their stuff.

Shinji shrugged a little, nonverbal telling her that no, nothing life changing occurred while she slept.

"Ya talked a bit, but nothing important." He teased, hearing the bell ring.

Hiyori's eye twitched involuntarily.

"...I did?" She asked nervously. Which was definitely something new for her. She was glad to finally be free of school for the day, she almost began celebrating, but then she remembered... she had dreaded after school detention.

"Fuck.... I don't wanna go to detention."

"Yes, ya did. Nothin' new. Ya normally talk a little." Shinji shrugged and followed the short blonde to their jail for the next two hours.

"....Like?" This was news to her, as far as she was concerned, she was a sound sleeper, no one really told her different.

They walked into the class that the both of them had known all too well.

"Take a seat, no talking." The very teacher that gave both of them detention snapped as they walked in. Hiyori groaned and dropped her bag down at a desk in the very back of the class, attempting to distance herself from the man as much as humanly possible.

Shinji laughed as he saw her confused face. He thought she knew she talked, but aparently, she didn't.
"You say my name a lot." He said dissmisively. He told himself it was because she loved to beat the shit out of him, even in her dreams

He followed her lead and sat next to her, as far from the teacher as possible.
